Use Your Plan: Troubleshooting
Problem #1: You have enrolled in a new Medicare drug plan but don't yet have a pharmacy benefit ID card to take with you when you fill your first prescription.
Take with you any letters you have received from the plan confirming your enrollment. If you haven't received any letters confirming your enrollment, take a copy of your application. If you don't have a copy of your application, take your regular Medicare identification card (and your Medicaid card if you have one) and tell the pharmacist the name of the plan in which you enrolled.
If the pharmacist still cannot find you in the computer system, and you have to pay for the medicine yourself, be sure to save your receipts so that you can get reimbursed once your ID card arrives. If you cannot afford to pay for the medicine yourself, but you need it right away, ask your pharmacist or other health care provider for help. Your pharmacist may be able to provide you with a short-term supply, or your health care provider may be able to give you some free samples that you can use until you get your ID card.
