Know Your Plan: Formularies

Question 1: What is a formulary?

A formulary is a list that indicates which medications are covered by a drug plan and at what level of copayment. The medications included on the formulary are organized by drug class. A drug class is a group of medicines that are used to treat a specific disease or medical condition.

There may be only one medicine in a drug class if it is the only one available to treat a certain disease, but most often there are multiple medications in a drug class.
