Choose Your Plan
Step 3: Find out how much you have to pay out-of-pocket when you fill a prescription.
The PDP will require a co-payment for each prescription. Many PDPs will have three or even four levels, or "tiers," of co-payments that apply to different medicines. Find out what co-payment level applies to each medication you are taking by calling the plan or looking in the materials you received from them.
If the co-pay is more than you can afford, you may want to ask your doctor if there are other medicines at a lower cost that would be appropriate for you. If there are not any, you can appeal to the PDP for a lower copayment. To do this, you need to ask for an exception and your doctor will need to submit additional information as in Step 2.
