Know Your Plan: What to Look For
Here are some resources that will help you understand your plan's rules:
- Know the rules: If you don't already have a copy, ask your employer or health insurance plan a copy of your rules.
- Use available resources: Use your brochure, handbook, list of covered drugs, plan Web site or other information provided to answer important questions about your pharmacy benefits.
- Be persistent: If you still have questions, don't give up. Ask your employer, or whoever handles benefits where you work, to fill in the blanks. You can also call the member services department of your health plan or pharmaceutical benefits manager (PBM).
- Go to the source: If you purchase your plan individually (not through your employer, union, or other group), call your health plan or PBM directly. The telephone number should be on the back of the pharmacy benefit ID card that was sent to you.
